COMOTION LAB MIAMI IS AN ADVANCED AND CONNECTED PLAYGROUND FOR MOBILITY INNOVATION

CoMotion LAB MIAMI (C-LAB) is an advanced and connected urban playground for mobility innovation in which public rights of way in Miami-Dade County and in adjacent geographies are used to develop and validate new and commercially-viable transport technologies. Miami-Dade County, with its 5,500 miles of public roads, its airspace and its maritime channels, provides a complex and variegated testing geography, representative of different kinds of urban geographies throughout the United States and beyond: dense urban center, exurban sprawl, and developer-led communities.

C-LAB is empowered by the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works and other key public sector stakeholders in the county and the state to oversee mobility pilot zones and streamline administrative processes to test new mobility technologies and solutions.

The first areas to be focused on in 2021 are:

Urban Air Mobility
Curb and Smart Infrastructure

2021 TASK FORCES

URBAN AIR MOBILITY

The Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Task Force has been assembled by Miami-Dade County Department Transportation and Public Works to bring innovative ideas from the private sector. The UAM Task Force’s mission is to consider the breadth of the County’s assets while recommending “in-air” solutions for goods delivery, passenger mobility, and operational enhancements to best serve residents, businesses, and visitors. The Task Force is comprised of entities that are expert in areas such as airspace management, infrastructure for take-off and landing, applicable manned and unmanned aircraft, FAA certification, zoning, and more. As with all C-LAB Task Forces, these innovators, in collaboration with the Miami-Dade DTPW and other key public agencies, will consider available technologies to address mobility needs, as well as identify necessary policies, pilot projects, and implementations.

CURB AND SMART INFRASTRUCTURE

Through public-private collaboration, the Curb and Smart Infrastructure Task Force pilots innovative solutions aimed at rethinking the way local governments manage the urban curb. It is essential that municipalities deliver a curb fit for the multimodal transportation and delivery services that operate around it, and that local governments have the smart infrastructure necessary for supporting a new wave of technological innovations, including autonomous vehicles. The Task Force acts in the service of Miami-Dade’s community and aims to develop solutions that are scalable and transferable to other urban realities.
